Strengths-based language

Words matter. The language we use to talk about disability and the words we say to children has a big impact on the messages kids receive. We will explore both how to talk about and how to talk to children with disabilities from a strengths-based perspective.

Visual supports

Visual supports are a go-to strategy in classrooms and can be very helpful support at home. We will explore the benefits of using visuals to clarify directions, to create helpful routines, and to help children self-regulate. Come to see examples of what visual supports look like in action, and receive resources to use at home.

School year transitions

The change from one school year to the next can make children worried or anxious. We will explore how to support your child with worries around transitions, using priming, validating language, and preparing materials with your children about your children, so new teachers start the year knowing your child’s strengths.
